Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates.

It is a body conditioning routine that helps improve flexibility and builds muscle strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, hips, and back.  Pilates emphasizes spinal and pelvic alignment, the use of focused breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. Pilates improves muscle tone, balances musculature, promotes correct posture and teaches ease of movement.
